Louis XVI

Although French, Louis XVI frames must be treated seperately. As the frame maker's craft steadily advanced, Louis XV frames reached the pinnacle of ornate design. Shortly after the Pompeii dig, which unearthed a simplified architectural design, the French frame took on a more subtle form. Many of the older ornate frames were discarded and replaced with the Louis XVI frame. This provided a boon to the emerging French impressionist painter who found the Louis XIII through Louis XV frames very desirable for their works.
